Taking the night shift with my newborn has given me the chance to watch a lot of the movies I’ve always wanted to. So far, I’ve enjoyed Taxi Driver, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Last Temptation of Christ, and The King of Comedy. I found My Left Foot and In The Name of the Father (both Daniel Day Lewis films) to be incredibly boring, The Lighthouse was like the other Robert Eggers films I’ve seen in that it was very stylish and weird, and Natural Born Killers is one of the dumbest movies ever made.

So, any recommendations? Kind of looking for classics here.

Oh, Westworld (1973) was okay. Watching The Conversation (1974) right now. Love me some Gene Hackman.

Narrow margin, 1990. Gene hackman, thriller.

Ahh, thank you. I think I’m going to go on a Hackman kick for a bit. Watched several De Niro movies lately, earlier stuff. I find old movies and old actors just have a lot of substance that is missing from newer films.

I think Gene was also in the original the Poseidon adventure 1972 film about the sinking cruise ship. He's definitely one of those actors with a lot of character and gravity in the parts he plays, and the films themselves have a lot of body.

Tango and Cash, Russell and Stallone are great!

Have you seen -
True romance 1993 (crime/gangster movie)
Nightcrawler 2013 (sociopath/amateur paparazzi)
Nightmare alley 2022 (con artist/1940's circus life movie)

So yes, I’ve seen the original Poseidon Adventure, good movie, and Tango and Cash, decent action movie as well. I have also seen Nightcrawler and thought it was pretty good. True Romance is definitely on the list to see.

Tonight it’s Apocalypse Now. Believe it or not, I’ve never seen it.

Jesus Christ what a boring, overrated movie. No idea why people think this is one of the greatest films of all time.

I nearly made a joke about how long it was, and indeed how boring it is. There are better out there.
Have you seen Platoon? Also a Vietnam war movie. So much better, pretty grim though.

Best Vietnam movie ever made and one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. And yeah, depressing as fück but so was everything about that war.
