Tbf, I've only gotten responses from a few people and ever got messaged first once because I accidentally clicked on their profile.

Maybe they are an actual ghost? Idk...

I agree, there is a chance that ghosts only have a limited ability to communicate as it could take an enormous amount of energy to cross plains and interact.

Overall, I'm sure they've done you a favourite when the trash takes itself out, rather than them dropping off later down the line. Just beware of BS excuses if they pop back up a month later pretending something dramatic came up when really you were replaced by someone more appealing, and they didn't have the bottle to bow out gracefully.

Coincidentally, I just started talking to someone today, actually got some conversation going, wound up going off platform, and then they suddenly deleted their account and seemingly vanished from the other platform.

Not sure what happened, but I assume they must have thought I ghosted them or something because I fell asleep and just got back to them 4-5 hours later. This person was from another country btw, so either way it's not the craziest thing that could have happened on either end...

Most likely. That being said this isn't the first time this type of thing happened to me although this one definitely went a lot longer and off platform as I mentioned which disproves them being a bot.

Some of the reasons I might not respond are:

I've stopped responding after finding out their married, still living with their husband but allegedly separated. I don't want messy.

I also stop responding when someone is clearly low effort, or makes little time to build up a rapport with. (sometimes that's not their fault if they have a very active life)

Other times it can be a case of clear differences.

No one owes anyone a response or their time. Best to just move on and focus on people who give you the same time and effort you put in and who want the same outcome as you do.

Theres probably about 10/15 who have regular contributions to the forum. But other than that I don't really know how many new users the site gets that arn't bots and how long on average they stay. I think ita pretty slim pickings for people who purely want to come on and fine someone date who is local to them.

IMO ghosting is okay if you haven't gotten to the phase of moving to another form or area of communication, aka moved off AltScene. thats just part of being on dating apps/sites. It's not always for a concrete reason. Sometimes they just don't vibe with you, and that's okay! IMO ghosting is whatever until you've moved to that other platform. I wouldn't be too dismayed, myself. Sometimes the reason is too silly or potentially hurtful to share- I've ghosted before because the way they type/talk is a turn off for me, but how are you supposed to say that? So I wouldn't take it personally!

When I regularly DM'd more, and didn't agree/vibe with the chat I'd try to explain that and not just ghost, but as soon as the chat became disrespectful they'd get ghosted, sometimes blocked.
Obvious bots got ghosted a lot quicker though.

I'll be honest, there needs to be a consistent exchange of messages over the course of a day or more before I'll give a reason for bowing out, and even then I will ghost if the other person is giving me the creeps. I get first messages on here from random dudes periodically. I don't bother responding to them. My profile is very explicit that I am taken so I don't feel I owe anyone a reason for not bothering to respond since they didn't bother to read my bio.

The main reason? They got bored and don’t have the courage or heart to tell you they’re no longer interested.

Or maybe they forgot about you because they have a busy life.

Or maybe they died in a tragic (or maybe not so tragic, depending on your opinion of the person) camping accident wherein they were asphyxiated in a tightly wound hammock.

Or maybe they suffered a stroke and have catastrophic memory loss and will never remember all the wonderful conversations you both had together.

Or maybe they were abducted by an Al Qaeda affiliate and are currently bound hand and foot in a remote location with no internet access.

Or maybe they dropped their phone into the ocean and before they could retrieve it, a tiger shark caught the phone and three of their 6 remaining fingers in its deadly jaws.

Or maybe they won the lottery and are now overwhelmed with far more attractive suitors than can be found on an obscure and mostly forgotten internet dating site.

These and many other reasons are why you have been ghosted and will remain unloved and spiritually destroyed for years if not decades to come.

Was reminded today of another reason why I may ghost somebody; it's when they ask to meet/hang out and I explain to them I've been previously cat-fished and stalked online, and that we'll need to video chat first to clarify their identity before meeting, and they don't like this / start making excuses as to why it cannot be done. 😶
