Pantera (Panther in Spanish) was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas, formed in 1981.
The group's best-known lineup consisted of the Abbott brothers (drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell), along with vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown.
The Abbott brothers officially disbanded Pantera in November 2003 and any hopes of a reunion were dashed late the following year when seminal guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed onstage whilst performing with his new band Damageplan.
The Pantera flame continues somewhat to this day through ex singer Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals who often perform Pantera songs during their live sets.
