Alice In Chains is an American grunge band formed in 1987 by guitarist Jerry Cantrell and late lead vocalist Layne Staley. Sean Kinney and Mike Starr completed the original line-up as the drummer and bassist, respectively. Mike Inez replaced Mike Starr in 1993. The band released three studio albums and two EPs from 1990-1995, which were all commercially successful. The band went inactive in 1996. Layne Staley died from substance abuse in 2002, and former bassist Mike Starr died from substance abuse in 2011. They regrouped in 2006 with new lead vocalist, William DuVall, and have released three new studio albums so far.
