Nightmare.
The moon hung low in the blackened sky, a single cloud drifting through the dazzling stars. The feeling that came over me was somewhat haunting, taking the last of the steady breath from my lungs. I stood there silenced by the echo of my heartbeat, which seemed to play the same frantic song as my frightened mind. The ground was cold, my feet tingled as the icy air left them numb. My eyes searched for him, fear rushing through my body as I longed for the familiarity of his voice. A piercing wind invaded the thin fabric that laid against my skin, forcing a cold shiver down my spine. I was alone.
Tears swelled behind my panicked eyes and soon fell steadily onto the frozen ground. I stared up towards the sky, my eyes focused on the light shining down from the moon. My body shook as the fear swiftly intertwined with the wind, bringing me to my knees. I closed my flooded eyes to see his face, as I whispered his name into the darkness.
As I opened my eyes, the light from the moon suddenly disappeared, casting a horrid darkness over me. I cried out in desperation, begging the cruel night to bring him to me, as I fought the perilous fear that threatened to take my last breath.
As soon as I was sure my cries would be left unanswered, a single ray of light was casted into the distance. I pulled myself to my feet and walked quickly towards the light. With tears still rushing from my frightened eyes, I focused on where this light was leading me. As I walked, the figure before me became clearer, revealing what I would soon find to be a ledge. I slowed my pace as I drew closer, coming to a sudden stop as I looked down. Beneath this mysterious ledge laid an endless darkness, which I then knew held only one purpose; death.
The light began to dim as a deeper fear settled into my mind. My body overwhelmed by terror, I closed my eyes once more, whispering a final goodbye to the one I loved. My heart shattered within my chest, taking the last of my strength and drowning it in my tears. With one last breath, a sorrowful apology left my lips as I stepped off the ledge, but his voice echoed through me as he suddenly called my name. My eyes met his as I fell, his hands reaching out in despereation, but it was too late. I disappeared into the darkness, as the sound of his cries floated through the icy wind. - By Me, Myself, and I
