Literature PhD student studying Gothic literature and contemporary horror movies, so you could say I'm literally getting my doctorate in Spookiness. Please don't ask me what I'm going to do with it later, I'm just trying to survive my comps.
Here's the basics:
Call me AV until I know you. I'm a semi-permanently exhausted night owl who's been fascinated by the things that haunt us for basically my entire life. I grew up in Texas and am now living in Louisiana, where I attend grad school and teach undergrads. I love both of these things an absurd amount, and it will probably be a big part of my conversations, so just a friendly heads up.
I'm essentially your harmless garden variety weirdo who's looking for someone who also wants to live their truest self, and let their passions lead them in life. I'm not in what I do for the money, obviously, and at this point I'm not even sure I'm in it for the ambition, I study what I study because I'm genuinely interested in our relationship with the things that scare us, and the things we want that we're technically not supposed to. I spend a lot of my time thinking about the way society portrays monsters, death, the afterlife, and the weird entanglement we seem to have with sexuality and violence. The things I study tend to leak over into the things I like to do in my spare time, so prepare for a lot of horror movies, bad TV shows, and asking you to go with me on cheesy ghost tours just to see what they talk about.
When I'm not reading books and writing endless articles, I write fiction (mostly for myself at this point, but who knows?), casually play video games, play board games with my friends, and go to the movies when there isn't a pandemic on. Our first date could equally likely be wandering around a bookstore with coffee, a conversation over drinks, or roaming the cemetery looking for the oldest headstone. You'll know I actually like you when I ask you to go to the movies, as I only take people I know I can trust with the experience, haha.
Mostly, I'm looking for someone who understands the love I have for the things I do, and can see the beauty in the dark places.
Oh, and I'm a Virgo, if that still means anything to anyone?
